Applying for financial aid may seem like a complicated process, but don't let that stop
you - it's a very important task to complete on time. And we're here to help, by providing
the advice and information you need, so you can make the right decisions and meet
important deadlines.
The first step to financing your education is filling out the FAFSA - the Free Application
for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA enables Lipscomb and the federal government to
assess your financial need, and your eligibility for financial assistance. We request that
all prospective students submit the FAFSA, even if you don't think you're eligible for
federal aid. While we do offer merit-based scholarships, students must file the FAFSA to
be considered for all aid available.
You can find detailed instructions on how to fill out the FAFSA and apply for financial aid
by clicking here.
Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 1st. (Mark this date on your calendar!)
The first awards will be made at the beginning of March. When you receive your award
letter, review the materials and return the appropriate documents to the Lipscomb
Financial Aid Office. A tuition deposit may be required at this time. Information will be
included in the award package.

What Kind of Financial Aid is Available?
Based on your FAFSA results, you may qualify for a variety of different need-based
awards, grants and loans. Here is a brief introduction to the types of financial aid
available:
State Grants -- Tennessee Student Assistance Award (TN State Grant) is a need-based
grant, awarded to Tennessee residents who are pursuing an undergraduate
degree at a college in Tennessee. Funds are limited, so apply by March 1 to qualify for
maximum funding. Lipscomb accepts publicly funded awards, including the Tennessee
Hope Scholarship.
Federal Grants -- The Federal Pell Grant is awarded to students seeking an
undergraduate degree. The amount of the grant is determined by the federal
government, based on the information you provide on your FAFSA. The Federal
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is awarded to Pell Grant recipients
with the greatest need. Funds for this grant are limited.
Federal Work-Study -- A student qualifies for work-study based on need. Student
employment is advertised on the Lipscomb website under the Career Center link.
Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan -- The Stafford loan is a loan for students. On the
subsidized loan, the government pays the interest on the loan for as long as the student
remains in college. Repayment does not begin until six months after the student leaves
college.
Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan -- On unsubsidized Stafford loans, interest
begins accruing immediately after disbursement, and continues until the loan is paid in
full. Repayment does not begin until six months after the student leaves college.
Federal Perkins Loan -- Low-interest loan for students with financial need. Repayment
of the Perkins loan does not begin until nine months after the student leaves college. All
three federal loans require students to file the FAFSA as well as institutional loan
applications, which are submitted through the Financial Aid Office at Lipscomb.
Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) -- Available to parents of
dependent undergraduate students. This credit-based loan requires an additional
application for the loan to be processed. Repayment generally begins within 60 days of
disbursement.
